BRAND NEW Friday Top 5 Round-Up: Everything I’ve missed out on this week

Brand new feature to The Daily Tech Review is the Friday Round-Up which is where I bring you the Tech news that I’ve missed out on throughout the week. However, obviously not all of it because that would just be impossible!

imageFacebook is changing the way you view your profile by replacing it with a timeline instead. This is what Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO had to say at the F8 about the new and upcoming timeline:

“People feel an intense ownership over their profile. Millions of people have spent a lot time to tell the story of their life through their profile.”

"Millions of people have spent years curating their lives and there's nowhere to show this. We think we have the solution. The original profile was the first five minutes, the stream was your 15 minutes, now I want to show you the next.”

"This is the heart of your Facebook experience, reworked from the ground up. We have been working on it the whole year and we are calling it Timeline.”

Timeline will recreate your ‘Facebook’ life and will basically tell your friends the story of your life through the social networking site.

Here’s more from Mark Zuckerberg:

"What Timeline does is shows all the important stuff recently, then summarises the rest of your life. This is the magic and how you can tell the whole story on a single page."

Plus, to make the new timeline work effectively a brand new range of ‘personal’ apps have been created just for you including the biggies like Spotify, The Guardian and Netflix taking part.

Next up, its a chance to get your hands on a Windows 8 tablet for £2,200!

This is the first ever Windows 8 tablet which was handed over to developers last week at the Build conference but the bright ones out one have decided to make some money from this and sell theirs on eBay.

The tablet comes with two years of 3G service and is never likely to make it to the shops but can this really happen? Hmm, surely Steve Ballmer and co cannot be very happy.

On the way, Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) news.

Microsoft have put us straight on their Windows Team Blog on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and officially confirmed that despite speculation the update will start appearing on your handsets in the next week or two. They also went on to say:

"This also seems like a good time to caution against installing unofficial or leaked copies of Windows Phone software.”

“During the official Windows Phone 7.5 update process, every Windows Phone will also receive software from the handset manufacturer.”

"This matched and paired firmware has been painstakingly tuned so your phone – and apps – work with all the new features of Windows Phone 7.5. Since your phone requires the proper firmware to function as designed, my advice is simple: steer clear of bootleg updates and homebrew tools."

Plus, also confirmed by Microsoft is that you will need to update your current installer on your computer to install Windows Phone 7.5 Mango to your smartphone successfully.

Finally, RIM (BlackBerry maker) have reached an all time low.

Stocks prices have continued to drop in the US, which is one of BlackBerry’s key markets. However, the UK seems to not be doing too bad but Canada also aren’t doing too well at all with the current stock decline.

The company witnessed a drop to $21.54, similar to the July 2006 result.

Even with the brand new release of popular, BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone they still have a long way to come before becoming side by side with big shots Apple and Android.

The good news is though that due to low interest in their PlayBook RIM have hinted at a price reduction for the BlackBerry tablet. Also, the company have said they are to continue to work on bringing the next-generation smartphone performance to their range with QNX devices.

Read it, share it, comment on it, follow it. AS easy as that!
