LG are expected to launch a 55 inch OLED TV next year

Its certainly going to be good but certainly not cheap.

image

LG are to launch a 55 inch OLED TV in the second half of 2012 and judging by previous OLED TVs it certainly won’t come cheap. The news comes from LG Display CEO Kwon Young-soo from an event held in Korea where he revealed plans to invest more time in producing larger OLED TVs rather than just smaller ones.

Along with that news, figures were also announced which proved TVs account for half of their overall sales.

What’s my view?

Well OLED is the new technology that is gradually expecting to over take LCD and LED, its more energy efficient and contain several advantages such as a faster refresh rate, lack of backlight meaning manufactures can produce slimmer TVs. To have all of this on a 55 inch TV is even better but it certainly won’t be a bargain so if you can afford well great if not like me bad luck.

No more Google Labs

In news from Google the search giant has revealed that they are intending on winding down Google Labs.

image

Google Labs is the place you go to test out Google prototypes and now its being taken down, the decision has come from Google to focus more on improving the current products already out there rather than introducing new ones.

We’ve seen over the past month closures of a few Google Labs services such as Google Health and Powermeter. The company has now announced though that that they will be also taking down more Google Lab products in the near future or alternatively build them into its “core service offering.”

Featured Post: New Apple OS X Lion on sale today, yes today!

New OS, new MacBook Air line up, new display and the release of the Apple Mini.

Apple have certainly been busy today with various releases and announcements. Read on for a break down.

Apple OS X Lion

imageIts Apple’s brand new OS and it hits shops today, its available to digitally download from the Apple Mac App Store to receive the 250 new features on offer including multi-touch gesture support update, Mission Control (new from Apple to view all of your running apps in one click, and with integration of the Mac App store.)

Upgrade your latest OS X Snow Leopard to the OS X Lion for just £20.99. Plus, the OS X Lion will be available to buy on USB memory stick from August for a price tag of £55.

Video from Apple’s Channel on YouTube.com

New Apple MacBook range

New MacBook Air laptops to come in 13 and 11 inch models. All receiving Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. Furthermore, Apple have thrown in a backlit keyboard and Thunderbolt ports.

Details on the updated Mac Mini range

Apple revealed today that the new and revamped Mini range will come loaded with Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, AMD Radeon HD graphics card and to top it off the new OS X Lion. Additionally, The Mac Mini will also receive built in Thunderbolt ports.

New Display Screen on offer from Apple

Want a larger screen? Apple’s providing it for you in addition to your Mac Mini and MacBook Pro. The new monitor called the Apple Thunderbolt Display will measure 27 inches and a offer 16: 9 aspect ratio. The new screen also comes with Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire 800 and a few USB 2.0 ports.

Now, Thunderbolt could make this screen stand out from the rest. I say this because by using the new technology there won’t be a need for those annoying and long cables. Thunderbolt lets you just use one cable and gives you the added ability to transmit audio and video signals to the display. This monitor will cost £899, not cheap but are Apple products ever at a reasonable price? It goes on sale in two months time.

What’s my view?

All good but expensive products on offer if you are an Apple fan. A few features that stand out from the crowd are Thunderbolt and Mission Control. These sound like they could come in handy at some time. Another thing that I do like about Apple is backlighting, this is so useful on a laptop especially when you’re in a dark room and need to use a computer but can’t see the keyboard! Those are just a few to highlight there are many and due to the price you pay for an Apple product one would hope you can expect an excellent and reliable purchase.

Details on Samsung’s 5.3 inch Galaxy Q LEAKED

New smartphone from Samsung rivals Dell’s Streak.

Samsung Galaxy Q details leaked: Phone or tablet?

More from Samsung and this time its news of an upcoming release of yet another smartphone to be named Galaxy Q which has potential to be big!

The screen is at the centre of conversation because its to apparently carry measurements of 5.3 inches, pretty big indeed. Of course, this does come with some positives and negatives. A positive is certainly the ability to use the Galaxy Q as a full all in one multimedia device however a negative is who' wants to put a 5.3 inch device into their pocket? Certainly not me!

A nationwide BBC survey looking at 3G signal strength

The BBC takes on mobile phones.

image

Its really irritating when you lose your signal strength especially when you need to use it, it happens and its something that we had to live with but the BBC want to change that for good.

Owners of Android smartphones can take part in this new BBC survey by downloading the free app that will basically record your mobile phone signal every second of the day as long as your phone is switched on. It will then take the data and plot it on a cool interactive map.

This is what BBC Technology Correspondent, Rory Cellan-Jones had to say about it:

"If we succeed, this should yield some interesting results.”

"It could tell us, for instance, whether our mobile networks are capable of delivering broadband connectivity in parts of the country where the fixed line service is patchy, whether coverage across cities is consistently good, and whether some operators are supplying a better service than others."

Share your music with codenamed BBM Music

Share your music with your friends through BlackBerry Messenger.

image

Sharing is popular as social networking site, Facebook has proven. People like to know what their friends are up to every second of the day. We also like to share what music we’re listening to and this is what BlackBerry’s new paid for service will achieve.

In addition to the forthcoming release of BlackBerry App World 3.0 BBM Music will let users share their songs and playlists with friends and family, well anyone really! Furthermore, RIM will offer their own and unique music library. Songs can be downloaded to your BlackBerry through a dedicated app.

Finally, it will set you back £3 ($5) a month, not much at all! With this monthly fee you then be able to send and receive a maximum of 50 songs per month.

What’s my view?

Its sounds good I suppose, not really my thing. However, if you’re the sort of person who likes to keep your people in the know of what music you’re listening and when BBM Music will be for you.

One beauty from Loewe with their Art 37 inch LED TV.

This TV offers both, design and features.

image

Loewe offers pure entertainment with the LED Art 37 which gives you:

  • Superb sound well at least we would hope so with built in Dolby Digital Plus.
  • MediaNet allowing you to access other Internet content.
  • USB connection to check out videos, music and snaps.
  • 40-watt integrated subwoofer.
  • Two 20-watt Dolby Plus speakers.
  • Support for 5.1 surround sound.

It certainly looks good and will set you back £1795 or a greater £2195 if you want an integrated hard drive to avoid rushing to the TV for your favourite programmes.

What’s my view?

It sounds and looks good but contains an off putting price tag. Features I do like are MediaNet to access all of my iTunes library from my living room and the built in USB connection which is always useful to show the family the latest pics.

Love to know you what you think?

Phillips take on the Apple iPod, oh yes!

Phillips GoGear Muse 3 is to offer something different.

Everyone expects you to have an iPod today well what if you want to stand out from the crowd? Take the Phillips GoGear Muse 3 then. The big thing about this MP3 player is that it offers a touchscreen equaliser.

imageThe latest gadget from Phillips brings you a 3.2 inch screen and gives you the choice of taking 8GB or 16GB of storage. If that is still not enough there’s a built in microSD card slot.

The feature that Phillips are boasting about is the easy to use touchscreen equaliser system which allows you to just drag your finger across the screen and pick your favourite spot.

Its going to cost £110 to £140, that’s if you opt for the 16GB edition. You will be able to play music in MP3, AAC, FLAC formats and more. Also, my favourite a radio thrown in.

What’s my view?

It looks and sounds good. I particularly like the touchscreen equaliser because this is a time worthy and attractive new feature. Whether it will be beat Apple is another question.

Nintendo to allow users to watch 3D films right from the comfort of your console.

image

The Nintendo 3DS lets you play 3D games without the need for the ugly 3D glasses and now you will soon be able to not just play games but watch films.

News according to a press release from Nintendo confirms that the 3DS console will be able to handle 3D films later this month. Plus, users can download a film app from the 13th July.

You will be able to get your hands on 3D movies from Nintendo’s new eShop if you’re in Europe. US readers no 3D films for you yet! We expect a release later this year though.

What’s my view?

This sounds good! The ability to watch 3D films on the move without glasses doesn’t seem bad at all.

Apple iPad 2 Plus could be out later this year

It looks like Apple could be releasing another iPad this year rumoured to be called the iPad 2 Plus.

image

Tablets, what were they? Oh yes they are small little touch screen computers that were generally only used by businesses. That was all changed by Apple though when they bought out their first iPad. A year on since the initial release of the Apple tablet computer the company have come up with a successor to the current iPad 2.

Those who are lucky enough to own an Apple iPhone 4 will know that you have the best mobile screen resolution on the market! Yes indeed and now Apple want to upgrade the current iPad’s screen resolution to 300 pixels per inch, not far off the iPhone 4.

Finally, In terms of design the name suggests that we won’t see much of an upgrade, the iPad 2 Plus is more likely to feature updates to under the hood than on the front.

What’s my view?

Its only early days but if Apple are only going to offer just a higher screen resolution I see not much point in upgrading.

New Internet and Apple compatible Roberts Radio

New cheap, portable, internet radio from Roberts.

image

The Roberts Stream 105  internet radio connects through Wi-Fi to bring you a choice of stations to listen to. The radio is also compatible with your Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and any other device with a 3.5mm socket.

Its portable, lets you listen to BBC podcasts and allows you to listen to your favourite music on your mp3 player, iPhone or iPod Touch and so on.

The Stream 105 comes with 10 presets and 2 alarm timers (note that it needs to be connected to the mains to wake you up though) however if the Internet is down you won’t get woken up by your desired radio station but instead by an annoying buzzer. At least you won’t be late!

Its available now for just £100 and is Robert’s cheapest Wi-Fi radio yet.

What’s my view?

When I first heard about it I thought yeah this will be fantastic however after a little more research I think its a waste of money. Yes its a bargain and provides some handy features such a 3.5mm socket, a headphone port to listen to your music in private and the feature of listening to BBC podcasts on the go. Ok, they’re all good but if you are out and about you are likely to lose Wi-Fi connection and with no FM or DAB installed you will have to revert to missing your favourite radio programme and listening to your own music instead. Not good! The hassle of connecting it to the mains to wake you up in the morning is also a negative. Apart from that its all good!

Toshiba produces a 3D glasses free laptop

Toshiba adds a glasses free 3D laptop to its new line up.

image

3D is getting bigger and bigger each day and today I bring you news of Toshiba’s brand new attractive 3D laptop range. They’re all pretty good but the one that stands out from the rest is the Toshiba Qosmio F750 for the one reason of it being specs free.

Its all done through a built in lenticular screen  with assistance from the handy webcam monitoring your eye movements.

Along with all of that, its claimed by the firm itself that the laptop can display 2D and 3D images at the same time through the 15.6 inch screen. Adding to that, you will get a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.

Other features loaded in the Qosmio F750 are Harmon Kardon speakers, Blu-ray player, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0. The laptop will also provide you with ample performance through the Intel Core i7 and nVdia processor GT 540M graphics card. Finally, Toshiba offers 6GB of storage space.

Its out this August and will cost you around £1300.

What’s my view?

It sounds super, I like the sound of built in Harmon Kardon speakers and the addition of Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 3.0. The Harmon Kardon speakers I’m sure will offer you quality sound! You will furthermore receive stunning performance from Intel’s i7 or nVdia GT 540M processor enabling you to play your heavy weight games with ease.

On the budget with new Samsung Galaxy Z

Samsung Galaxy Z launches and is designed for people on a budget.

image

Samsung have just launched a cut-down but still well equipped alternative to the Galaxy S2 which is yes, £100 cheaper than the current Samsung Galaxy S2.

The smartphone comes with a large 4.2 inch LCD display and a resolution of 800x480 pixels.

It runs on Android 2.3 and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.  Also included is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 5Mp camera.

Finally, The smartphone also features a whopping 8GB of storage also supporting  microSD cards of up to a limit of 32GB.  Not bad at all if you don’t want to spend too much!

What’s my view?

My opinion is that this sounds excellent if you’re on a budget. Just to name a few: it has a large screen, runs on popular Android OS and gives a 1GHz processor. I think if you’re a student especially on a budget and want an Android smartphone this could be a worthy buy!

Samsung wins, Apple loses?

Samsung’s Galaxy S2 is more popular than Apple’s iPhone.

image

You might think Apple’s iPhone is leading the smartphone competition at the moment but Samsung look to take over and steal that number one spot away from Apple with their massively popular Galaxy S2.

Here are some stats for you:

  • In the first eight-five days of going on sale the Samsung Galaxy S sold three million units.
  • In just fifty-five days alone of the Samsung Galaxy S2 sold more than three million units.

For US readers this post is irrelevant because it hasn’t launched there yet. However if and when it does Apple better watch out!

The smartphone will carry a 1650mAh battery.

What’s my view?

Lets hope its as good as it sounds! The smartphone features some excellent tech such as a 4.7 inch screen and a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor.
