Nokia Symbian Belle has been tracked down

After Anna, comes Belle. The next version of the Symbian OS.

image

We just recently heard about the next smartphone to run on Anna, the latest version of Symbian’s OS. Now, a smartphone running the next version of Symbian called Belle has been spotted.

Belle has been seen running on a prototype called the Nokia 700 Zeta. It will feature a  a new user interface. Now, from what I can tell this looks like a replacement for the current Nokia C6-01 which means you will receive a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen. Also, there’s a 1GHz processor to power the OS.

No details on the release date of the Nokia 700 Zeta yet but watch this space for more information.

What’s my view?

Nokia are constantly coming out with new smartphones at the moment even though we can expect to see the release of the first Nokia, Windows smartphone later this year. It will certainly be interesting to watch how the latest Symbian smartphones sell once the first Nokia smartphone to run on the upcoming Windows Mango is released.

LG 3D Monitor out next month

LG produces a 3D monitor that takes no 3D active glasses.

image

Don’t hear much about 3D monitors however this is all about to change with LG’s DM50D monitor. It features 3D obviously, an integrated TV tuner and USB Quick View technology (no need to power up your computer, all you do is plug in a USB stick or hard drive to watch back your films instantly.)

No solid information on the size of screen but judging by the model name its likely to be 50cm wide, not too big to fit on your desk.

The LG monitor also comes equipped with Passive Cinema 3D technology which is guaranteed to bring your snaps and videos to life! The good thing is don’t even need to waste money on batteries for your 3D glasses because all you have to is buy yourself a cheap pair of polarized glasses.

No prices yet. The beauty is available next month.

What’s my view?

Let me start by saying I wouldn’t say no! It sounds super. The fact that you don’t need to go through the hassle of switching on your computer to playback your films is very good, especially if you have a slow computer. No more wasting money on 3D glasses is also a pro, so many good things about this monitor! Great size screen and it should just fit depending on the width of your individual desk. Lets hope its as a good as the information.

image

One look at the Nokia E6 and straight away anyone will be able to tell you that its an improvement from the previous edition, the E5.

The qwerty and touchscreen enabled Nokia E6 gets Anna, the first ever smartphone to feature the newest version of the Symbian OS.  It features some performance improvements and extras to the Symbian OS.

The screen is small and neat measuring 2.46 inches and including a 640x480 pixel resolution. Loaded in the E6 are an 8Mp camera, 8GB of integrated storage space and Bluetooth 3.0. Also, business people you will find some handy business apps already installed on the E6 such as Mail for Exchange and QuickOffice.

It costs £25 per month on a contract or if you prefer to go SIM-free it will set you back £349.

What’s my view?

I think yes this could be a good investment whether I’d swap a BlackBerry for the very similar Nokia E6 would probably be a no.

Apple iPhone 5 and 4S could be released together in September

Another rumour about Apple’s new upcoming iPhone, or is that iPhones?

imageNews has arisen today that we could see two Apple iPhones side by side be released by this coming September, one claimed by Chris Whitmore, an analyst at Deutsche Bank is to offer a lower spec at a lower price which is rumoured to be called the iPhone 4S. With the iPhone 4S we will notice no change in design as such but tweaks to under the hood including a new camera. Whereas, the iPhone 5 is rumoured to make use of a higher spec and at a higher price. The iPhone 5 is likely to be the one that will feature a brand new design resembling the current iPod Touch.

What’s my view?

I think that yes this could be good idea. Apple iPhones are pretty expensive as it is so for Apple to perhaps offer the 4S at a cheaper price would be terrific.

You’ve heard of my view, what’s yours?

New Sony BRAVIA smart TVs

Sony add KDL-NX723 and KDL-HX923 to its new BRAVIA range.

Later than usual is yesterday’s blog.image

A new set of smart TVs for Sony and they promise to offer something different in terms of design. The KDL-NX723 and the KDL-HX923  come loaded with the new “Monolithic” design.  Its not just the new look that has been added to the brand new Sony BRAVIA line-up, we will also get to listen back to the sound in some neatly integrated speakers.

Its a smart TV so you can access the BBC’s popular catch-up service, iPlayer along with posting a status update to Facebook, checking your timeline on Twitter, watching your favourite films on LOVEFiLM and checking out the latest music videos on YouTube. All of this as well as full HD.

The KDL-NX723 will be available in sizes 40 and 46 inches, the KDL-HX923 is going to be also on the market but with screen sizes of 46 and 55 inches. You can buy both of these in store this month.

What’s my view?

I think Sony have done well with these two, I like the new and light “monolithic” design. It makes it look attractive and deluxe.

Smart TVs in my opinion are great because you can access all of the most popular Internet sites without even moving from your sofa.

The screen sizes are also pretty decent and will certainly create more of an atmosphere in your living room.

From the information above it sounds sound however as with everything I’m sure it will have its disadvantages.

Samsung’s qwerty keyboard on the SCH-i405

New smartphone from Samsung to feature a qwerty keyboard and touchscreen display.

imageLots of Samsung touchscreen smartphone are around but the SCH-i405 offers more than just a usual touchscreen. The new Android phone features a full qwerty keyboard as well!

It will also come with a 1GHz processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No more sound details to reveal just yet.

Good news is that it shouldn’t cost you too much either.

What’s my view?

It offers a fair amount of good specs so this could be a popular one if you like your qwerty keyboard and don’t want to spend too much.

A LEAK for Nokia’s new Windows Phone

Nokia’s new Windows Phone codenamed the Sea Ray has been “leaked.”

image

OK, Nokia are in the news this week. Its only been a few days since news of the upcoming release of the MeeGo N9 smartphone was revealed and now the company have just let slip about the first ever Windows Phone OS to run on Nokia.

Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia initially asked  all audience members to switch off any recording devices that they had on them because  of the “super confidential” information that was about to be revealed in the presentation, it was something “that we do not want to see out in the blogosphere”. Bit late for that.

Very strangely Elop didn’t seem to notice any of the recording devices at all, a bit hard to be believe.

He moved on to show the audience members what the codenamed Sea Ray would look like when released which very much resembled the N9 apart from a new button added to the side of the phone.

What I can’t work out is Nokia are putting out information here, there and everywhere at the moment, which to me doesn’t sound like great PR. A few days ago it was news of the N9 and now its a leak of the Sea Ray. Answer this one, whose going to buy the N9 running on an unheard OS when they can just wait for the N9 lookalike to be released running Windows Mango later this year. Hmm.

Xbox Live gets a new look and feel in the Mango update

With the release of the next update of the Windows Phone OS called, Mango Xbox Live receives an overhaul.

image

We earlier heard about Mango a few months ago with it featuring in Nokia’s new and upcoming range of Windows handsets but today I can tell you that popular gaming social platform, Xbox Live is like you’ve never seen it before. Yes, really!

Initially, you will notice a brand new interface on the Windows Phone Xbox Live Hub with updates to the current icons style wise, a brand new recent category which is pretty useful if you’re a regular because what it will do is store as it says your three most recent games played. This then makes it easier and quicker to begin that addictive game again! Also, alongside the new facelift, performance has also been improved by offering faster response time. Always good, no one enjoys a wait.

Now, something that I quite like is the new 3D avatars who yawn and give a friendly wave once or twice. What do you think of them, do you share my opinion?

Finally, also featured in this update is the chance to send messages and keep a track of all of your friends achievements directly through your Windows Phone.

What do you think of the new update? Let me know below.

What’s my view?

I think yes improvements have been made here for the better to create a more preferred OS, whether or not they will be liked that is something we just have to wait and find out.

Apple iPhone 5 could feature a dual LED flash

Camera quality on the Apple iPhone wasn’t ever Apple’s best feature however this could look set to change.

image

A camera has now become a compulsory part of a phone, every mobile today comes tacked with a camera giving us the chance to take snaps on the move.  Apple to say the least don’t have a very good reputation when it comes to cameras. However, saying that to be fair it did improve slightly in the iPhone 4 which yes believe it or not is the most used smartphone on the popular photo sharing site, Flickr.

Anyhow, we could be in for a treat with the next generation of the iPhone because it may feature a dual LED flash.

Would that please you or not?

What’s my view?

Apple are a popular firm so in my opinion whatever they produce good or not will become a hit.

Release date for Nokia N9

A release date has been revealed for the MeeGo supported Nokia smartphone.

image_thumb3

I revealed the news of the upcoming N9 smartphone from Nokia on Tuesday and now I have a release date for you which is to be September. No specific date to tell at the moment.

A lot of disappointment to app lovers with this smartphone due to the choice of OS. Yes indeed, no Android its Intel’s supported OS instead called MeeGo. However, put that aside its got a good chance of being big.

The new smartphone will feature an 8Mp camera loaded with Carl Zeiss optics.

What’s my view?

OK, it doesn’t feature Android’s OS and is to be released without Windows Phone OS but it still has a pretty good chance of becoming one of the most popular smartphones around due some nifty features on the N9 such as a Carl Zeiss 8Mp camera and Nokia’s sharpest ever screen around with exact 854×480 pixels.

A brand new iPhone might be on the cards.

We could expect a brand new re-design for the next iPhone and an August release date.

image

Initially, we expected the next edition of the iPhone, iPhone 4S  to just contain a straightforward update however it looks like we could be totally wrong and receive a complete overhaul.

We have seen a quick and simple update appear in previous iPhone series for example, with the iPhone 3 and 3GS. The design was kept the same with just a few tweaks to under the casing.

Now, from what we know at the moment the latest iPhone rumoured to be called the iPhone 5 is to resemble the current iPod Touch in terms of design. However I doubt to see  the iPhone 5 replicate the smooth, shiny, metal and black front of the iPod Touch to avoid causing reception issues.

Do you like the look of the current iPod Touch and would you like to see that design feature on the new and upcoming iPhone?

What’s my view?

I personally like the current design of the iPhone 4 and to be totally honest I don’t think it really needs a redesign. The iPod Touch is out there already on the market so why copy that design when you have a perfectly good and attractive design already featured on the iPhone 4?

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo out soon

Another new and attractive smartphone from Sony Ericsson is due out the first week of July.

image

Not your predictable size screen with the Neo however still a reasonable size of 3.7 inches bringing a resolution of 854x480 pixels to the screen. Also, the new smartphone will feature a powerful 1GHz processor with Android’s Gingerbread OS. Additionally, as we are seeing with the latest smartphones around at the moment for example with Apple’s new iPhone out soon  the Xperia Neo will feature an 8Mp camera with a flash. Always useful in dark conditions!

Now, after production delays during the initial expected release date of April we can finally get hold of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo during the first week of July.

What’s my view?

Well there are lots of smartphones being released at the moment, it seems to the flavour of the year. Is this going to be just another smartphone to be bought out? I suppose we will just have to wait to give it a try on the first week of July. However, having said that it does feature some impressive features such as the the quite popular 1GHz processor and 8Mp camera with a flash to grab your stills on.

New smartphone from Sony Ericsson trusted to keep you fit.

New Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is designed to suit your fitness regime whether its from running to shoulder press.

imageAnother touchscreen phone to land on the market soon offering a 3-inch screen and 1GHz processor. Here’s the handy bit, the newbie will use dust proof and water resistant casing.

The new sporty phone will additionally feature a clip to attach it to your lanyard, useful! Also, Sony have prepared you the bad weathers with waterproof and dustproof casing. Furthermore, GPS will be thrown in so need to get lost on that morning run. Additionally, a barometer and digital compass will be built in offering an on screen heartbeat count and pulse monitor to keep a track throughout your workout.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Active will run on Android’s Gingerbread OS.

What’s my view?

I do think that despite the quite small screen in relation to other smartphones this could be a winner! Most of us like to keep fit whether its outdoors or in and the features Sony are providing could be rather useful such as a lanyard clip. This saves the phone falling out of your pocket but instead keeps it safe around your neck.

Also the latest smartphone from Nokia will come with an 8Mp camera loaded with Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus.

What’s my view?

OK first with Windows Phone OS coming to Nokia later this year who’s going to really want to buy a smartphone featuring MeeGo which is a rather unknown OS already?

The Daily Tech Review

All-in-one stereo from Onkyo

Onkyo are offering an iPod dock, DAB+ radio and a CD player all in one stereo.

image

Who actually listens to a stereo nowadays? Its all iPods today and Japanese company, Onkyo have taken note of this through the combination of the iPod, the DAB+radio, the traditional CD player and the modern USB connection port all in one, the beauty is called the Onkyo Colibrino CS-245DAB.

The new stereo includes an iPod dock which means if you’re running out of juice on your iPod or iPhone no worries, just charge it on the dock.

The unit will come attached with a convenient remote control and in a range of attractive colours including lime green, black, deep red, and white. On the way with Colibrino are two, free-standing speakers along with 10cm woofers.

The price of this new piece of tech is quite a lot for just a stereo but the Onkyo Colibrino CS-245DAB is so much more than just a stereo as we have just found out.

Take your TV out and about with you

With Toshiba’s new internal battery powered television, REGZA 19P2 you can take it wherever you go.

imageWe take our mobiles with us everyday but imagine taking your TV with you. The 19 inch internal battery powered television from the Toshiba does exactly that. However, due to the quite large screen it really defeats the object in my opinion. Good news is I suppose at least you can take it into your garden without the horrible wires trailing all over the ground.

The screen features 1366x788 resolution and isn’t totally full HD however considering the size of the television hopefully the picture will still be pretty strong.

Now, Toshiba have reported that the REGZA 19P2 can last you a total of five hours so it certainly gives you some time to catch up with your favourite programmes.

Also, you don’t necessarily have to be outdoors because Toshiba have given you the option of plugging the TV into the mains so if its dull out take it inside.

BlackBerry’s Playbook makes it arrival

The tablet from BlackBerry hits the majority of shops today.

image

A little bit of a disappointment from BlackBerry’s Playbook to be honest, one because of the lack of apps, the absence of email, 3G and a smaller screen of 7 inches compared to other competitors. Not looking good!

However, don’t let that put you off the Playbook because it does comes with a dual-core processor which runs on the QNX OS and is sold in either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB versions. It arrives with the price tag of £399.

The tablet is being sold exclusively at Selfridges today but if you can’t make it don’t panic because it’s going on sale across the country tomorrow.

Another delay but this time from LG

The word’s first glasses free 3D smartphone, LG Optimus 3D delayed until July.

imageWe first expected this smartphone to be released in April however that has now been pushed back to July 12th.

Now, there’s lots of hype on this particular smartphone because its the world’s first ever 3D phone where you won’t even have to wear those annoying spectacles that most people hate.

The LG Optimus 3D will feature a 4.3inch screen which given the size is perfect to watch the latest films or post a status update. It will run on Android 2.3, and come with 8GB of storage space with room for a microSD card. The smartphone will also come equipped with a 3D camera which makes use of two 5Mp lenses that give you the chance to shoot some stunning 3D photos and videos.

The question I’m asking, is this phone going to be worth the wait? Will 3D be popular on a smartphone platform? Let me know your views by leaving me a comment.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro Delayed

Delayed launch date until end of July for the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro.

imageBad news for the Xperia Pro, after the announcement on its web store and the initial start of pre-orders an article featured on Mobot has now confirmed Sony have delayed the release date of the popular new smartphone.

Touchscreen phones have become increasingly  popular in the past few years, Sony have recognised this and taken it into consideration when building the Xperia Pro. The new Sony phone will feature a full 3.7 inch screen and an easily laid out qwerty keyboard, catering for both kinds. The screen also comes with 854x480 pixels and a 1GHz processor. Similar to what we are going to see from Apple’s new iPhone, iPhone 4S Sony have put a back facing 8Mp camera on which gives you the chance to take high quality pictures as well as recording some HD video. As well as all of that the phone will come with 3G, Wi-Fi and memory which is expandable up to 32GB.

Google Music Beta lands in the UK

Google have a new music streaming programme on the way and its available to test for some of you in the UK.

imageWe’ve recently just seen news announced on Apple’s iCloud and iTunes in the Cloud service and now Google are giving it a go with their new music streaming programme currently in beta and again are going head to head with Apple with their new service.

Lets take a look at the two, Apple’s new service scans a user’s hard drive then matches their songs with online, high quality versions which avoids a lengthy upload wait. Whereas, there are no frills with Google’s new service because it basically streams your music from the songs which you upload to the piece of software. The limit is 20,000 however that is more than enough to satisfy your needs in my opinion. Once they’re uploaded take your Android smartphone out and begin to listen to your favourite songs wherever you are in the world.

Bad news is that Google haven’t got any deals with the big music labels unlike Apple who are already ahead in that department however it is only early days.

If you are one of those lucky users that Google Music Beta has been rolled out to in the UK, let me know and tell myself and the community what you think of it.

Acer’s new netbook

Acer’s new netbook titled ‘Acer Aspire One Happy,’ what a mouthful!

imageNetbooks, what are they? Ever since we saw the release of tablets netbooks have been pushed aside a little however this may all change over the coming months if Acer can do enough to convince us that the Happy is a worthy buy for £229.

The second generation of the Happy is compact and is from the new Aspire Timeline X series providing a 10.1-inch screen and a 1024-600-pixel resolution, not the best resolution however not at all bad considering the price.

Acer have specifically targeted a younger audience with the Happy from the colours on offer, we have ‘Banana Cream’,’ Blueberry Shake’,’Strawberry Yoghurt’ and ‘Papaya Milk.’

Good thing is, the specs are unexpectedly not bad. Here’s what you can expect from the Happy: an Intel Atom processor running at a speed of 1.66GHz, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a battery life of up to 8 hours, a webcam which is always handy and an optional 3G modem on offer.

New all-in-one PC range from Sony

Sony have released a brand new range of touchscreen, all-in-one PCs with active 3D thrown in. Its called the L series.

imageSony have decided to take it upon themselves to put desktop PCs back on the top of the market with a whole new range of all-in-one PCs.

Lately desktop PCs have been up against laptops which have seen them sadly pushed  to the end of the shelves however Sony’s new 24-inch all-in-one PC range is set to change that. The new series will also feature active 3D technology, a free pair of glasses thrown in and a computer that is more than bigger enough to be also used as a TV.

It will also come with the support of ‘PlayStation-3-based 3D content’ so if you do have a PS3 you will have the opportunity to connect it and enjoy the glorious entertainment by plugging it into the included HDMI port.

The L series also comes with a wide choice of Intel Core i7 quad-core processors, however it doesn’t stop there. Also on offer by Sony are nVdia graphics and an integrated Blu-ray drive so you can watch the latest HD movies playback on your 24-inch monitor.

Nintendo’s new console is set to change gaming again

Details were announced on Nintendo’s next console following on from the ‘Wii’ at E3 2011 yesterday.

imageYesterday arrived loads of exciting information on Nintendo’s new console and an actual name for the new beauty, originally thought to be called just ‘Nintendo,’ pretty simple however the Japanese company decided to abandon that and call it Wii U’ instead.

‘Wii U’ is certainly set to impress us with a whole load of neat features attached to the console; I think ‘Wii U’ could be in a competition of its own now knowing what’s in store for the next generation of Nintendo’s motion control console. In the new and revamped controller we can expect to experience a new 6.2 touch screen controller with built a in accelerometer and a gyroscope, rumble capabilities to enhance our experience, front facing camera, a microphone and speaker, a handy stylus, a USB connection slot, motion control and a headphone jack.

The console itself feature HD graphics just like Xbox and PS3. All the same, here is  what I think is useful which I do believe is already around on other consoles, backward  capability so no need to replace your old games because the console will still play all of your previous games designed for the ‘Wii’ on the ‘Wii U.’

Anyhow, this is what I call revolutionary and at the same time convenient. Imagine somebody has come into the living room to watch the TV but you’re playing on the ‘Wii U,’ well don’t panic because the game will wirelessly stream your game straight to the 6.2 inch touch screen controller without you even having to stop what your doing. Now do you agree?

Information on iTunes iCloud and Match released

Alongside the release of iCloud the company have also revealed information on another new programme from Apple.

imageInformation regarding a new service which puts iTunes in the Cloud was released alongside Apple’s iCloud service yesterday which I posted about last week. Its basically a programme that keeps a track of the songs you download via iTunes then lets you download your online music library across to your iOS device(s).

Meanwhile, another new piece of software from Apple revealed yesterday was said that it could change how you manage your music library dubbed iTunes Match. Here’s how it works: the programme lets you back up your music library online through a scan. The software then creates a match of your music library on the web. Once you’ve replicated your entire music library you will then be able to download those files in high quality audio (256kbps) straight from iTunes to your Apple device, up to to ten in total. This I think is a nifty feature because it saves time in the long run by not having to individually update your iPod, then your iPhone one by one.

The service comes with a price tag of $24.99 (£15.20) per year when it launches in the US this Autumn. However, there could be a hidden agenda involved because Apple have carefully designed this new service so themselves and the record companies receive some cashback on all of those illegally downloaded music tracks that people download everyday. However, If you’re the sort of person with bad quality tracks saved on your computer this could just be the perfect service for you.

Bad news is for UK readers that iTunes in the Cloud is set to launch in the US only but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for it to land in the UK.

Toshiba’s Thrive to target entry level tablet buyers.

imageToshiba are to release a new tablet device that is going to be cheaper than the Apple iPad but still offer a handful of cool features, it sounds like their may be a little bit of competition on between the two.

The Thrive will come with a satisfactory 10.1 inch screen carrying a 1280x800-pixel resolution, dual-core nVdia Tegra 2 processor, a 5Mp camera attached to the rear, a 2Mp camera built into the front and Android OS.

The price of the new tablet device from Toshiba is expected to go on the market at around £260, considerably cheaper than the Apple iPad 2. Will you be loyal and stick with Apple or switch to Toshiba’s new Thrive?

Get games for your Nintendo 3DS from 6th June

Buy and download games from Nintendo’s 3DS eShop also download a new firmware update.

imageThe 3DS is a fantastic new device from Nintendo which lets you play 3D games glasses free from the palms of your hands. However, one thing the device is lacking is the amount of games currently available. Nintendo thought about this long and hard and came up with an eShop, so no need to move from the comfort of your house because all you need to do is download the free firmware update through Wi-Fi and begin downloading your favourites through your 3DS.

The new firmware update is due to land in North America on the 6th June so I hope in a few days it will reach us in the UK.

New service from Apple, its called the iCloud

New music streaming service from Apple to take on Spotify.

imageApple are to hit us with a new music streaming service next week which could change how you listen to your music on your portable devices e.g. iPod or iPhone. iCloud is the name of the new service and its set to be officially unveiled next Monday, 6th June 2011.

iCloud will work by scanning your hard drive and then letting you play the same songs that are already on your hard drive but on your portable device  through an online replicate.

Apple already has music labels, Sony, EMI, and Warner Music interested but its not enough to replace your whole music library by far.

There’s already a variety of songs available to us on iTunes so hopefully Apple will be able to offer a similar collection of music for iCloud.

What do you think of it? Is it a waste of time or could it actually be useful?

Watch this space next week for more information on the new service.
