Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 will finally be available this October via Windows 8 PCs and boxed copied of the software. Existing Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP users will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 from their PC for a lower price. Boxed copies of the operating system will also be available for a slightly higher price.
Microsoft had aimed to bring Windows 8 to users before the holiday season, and it looks like Microsoft was true to its word. Windows 8 will first be released to manufacturers in August to build PCs with Windows 8 built in, before the software goes on general sale in October in 109 languages and 231 markets worldwide.

From October, PCs will go on sale sporting Windows 8 as the default operating system, without the need to upgrade. As revealed earlier Microsoft told users they will be able to upgrade from Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP from their PC for a lower price than if purchased separately.
Microsoft outlined its plans to make the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8 as smooth as possible, explaining that the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will take PC owners through each step of the way.
Gadget fans will be hoping Microsoft’s announcement moves the company one step closer to revealing a date and price for its Microsoft Surface tablet, and new Windows 8 Phones, with more apps, better games and microSD card support as Microsoft looks to do battle on all fronts against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 4S and Apple’s iPad.
