Using augmented reality Aurasma has teamed up with Universal Pictures to recreate famous movie scenes across London’s most well-known landmarks. The movie magic comes courtesy of the Universal 100 app that makes landmarks come to life simply by pointing your Apple or Android device at them.
Once the Universal 100 app is downloaded you can point your device at one of three landmarks revealing famous scenes from three of cinema’s most iconic movies.
Point your device at Big Ben and the famous DeLorean from Back to the Future will soar overhead as if by magic. Meanwhile pointing towards Nelson’s Column will reveal King Kong peering across Trafalgar Square. Or head to Buckingham Palace to see Jurassic Park’s T-Rex roaring away in front of the royals.
There is of course a very special reason for all this special effects sorcery. The Universal 100 app marks the studio’s 100th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than with tech?
The app brings even more scenes to life by pointing it at any one of 15 limited-edition DVD and Blu-ray film releases including: Back to the Future, King King Kong, Mama Mia and more.
The Universal 100 app is available to download free from the Apple Store and Google play (formerly the Android Market). The next time you’re out and about, check it out.
