The Panasonic Eluga Android smartphone we first heard of back in February looks set to arrive in the UK on 24 April. Pre-orders are already being taken for the phone that is set to throw another big name manufacturer into the UK market. With some impressive specs on board, including the promise of an Android 4.0 update later this year, the Panasonic Eluga looks like big news!
The Panasonic Eluga is a 4.3-inch Android smartphone that is already up for pre-order at Expansys, SIM free for a price of £365 (inc. VAT). For that price you get a Panasonic Eluga with a 4.3-inch qHD OLED display, dual-core 1GHz processor, 8GB of internal storage, and an 8-megapixel camera. The Eluga will also sport NFC talents, letting owners sync with other NFC compatible devices such as speakers and other NFC handsets.
At launch the Panasonic Eluga will not have the latest Android 4.0 operating system built-in. Instead owners will make do with Android Gingerbread 2.3. An Android 4.0 update will follow later in the year.
Seemingly appearing out of the blue, the Panasonic Eluga sports a trendy angular design similar to the Sony Xperia S. However, Panasonic will have a lot of competition on its plate in the form of the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3, due to be unveiled on 3 May.
It will be interesting to see just how the Panasonic Eluga performs, and whether customers trust Panasonic in favour of more established smartphone brands in the UK, particularly now Nokia is enjoying a resurgence with its Nokia Lumia range, and the forthcoming launch of its Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone. With more competition 2012 looks set to be a great year for smartphones.
