We’re all used to the idea of using Bluetooth to stream audio to headsets and there are any number of Wi-Fi enabled docking systems, but Koss is claiming oneupmanship with its its new STRIVA setup, as it’s claimed to be the world’s first Wi-Fi headphone system. Koss has revealed details of what it’s calling a world first, with the STRIVA project which has been under wraps for the best part of four years. The new system comprises three different elements, the STRIVA Core, which is a tiny computer linked to a web server that has the power to make anything Wi-Fi enabled, the MyKOSS server and the STRIVA CAP, which is a Wi-Fi access point to link your devices together.
What we like about the solution is that the MyKOSS server hooks up with your STRIVA devices to remotely access the internet and deliver music from the thousands of radio stations and free audio streams that are out there, so you’ll never be without music. Meanwhile, the STRIVA CAP can pull music from any location, smartphone, MP3 player or Hi-Fi, convert it and then sent it to your headphones.
To get things underway, there are two devices set to hit stores, the in-ear Koss STRIVA TAP and the bulkier over-the-ears cans of the Koss STRIVA PRO, priced at the moment at $500 (£320) and $450 (£280) respectively.
