Featured: Bad news for competition and poll volunteers, The Sun’s website has been hacked again

The Sun’s website has been at the heart of an attack supposedly leaking registered users personal information including names and addresses onto the web.

This takes off from a previous attack on the website last month from a hacking group going by the name of LulzSec posting a fake news story claiming “Rupert Murdoch had died after taken a drug overdose.”

This time, the hacker who takes full responsibility calls himself Batteye on Twitter and has also said that he has no connection with hacking group, LulzSec.

Competition and Poll volunteers, could it get any worse?

News International has emailed “hundreds of thousands” of users to warn that their personal details are no longer personal.

This isn’t good for News International especially when they are at the centre of current phone hacking investigations into the obsolete Sunday newspaper, News of the World.

Here’s what Director of consumer data of News International, Chris Duncan had to say:

Some customer information from competitions and polls was breached" – including readers' names, addresses, dates of birth, emails and phone numbers.

Also, he went onto say:

"No financial or password information was compromised,"

He also mentioned that News International are working hard alongside the Police and furthermore, the information commissioner to "to ensure that all steps are taken to retrieve the files involved".

The hacker writes on site, Pastebin:

"We will begin today be presenting to you, various files obtained from the Sun, a company within the News Corp group. We will continue, then, by exposing the world for what it is; a less than perfect place where we cannot trust those who we ask to protect our information."
