Tetris makes a comeback on Android, and this time it's free!

Among a host of other announcements today, games developer Electronic Arts proudly revealed that you’ll now be able to get Tetris on your Android smartphone for free, irritating yet frustratingly catchy music included.

Sure, there have been various knock-off versions of Tetris around for ages, with cringe-worthy and desperately unimaginative names along the lines of Falling Blocks, or Turn-the-three-er-round-and-drop-it-next-to-that-square, but it’s simply not the same!

Being able to remember playing Tetris for hours and hours on end on the original Nintendo Gameboy naturally marks us out as old, but we don’t care, as they were particularly fond memories. Even if the graphics are pretty shoddy compared to the latest 3D titles, there’s very little like it (OK, Angry Birds comes close) when it comes to addictive games.

On Tetris, EA points out: “The free version of Tetris features new and improved visuals, the famous Tetris music and fan-favorite marathon mode that will challenge even the most seasoned of Tetris veterans.”

“With touch screen controls, longtime fans and newcomers alike can control their game with their fingertips and slide, rotate and drop their Tetriminos into place to clear lines and rack up points. The free version of Tetris also lets players track their stats so they can keep the competition going and improve their high score.”
