Spotify and iTunes watch out, Xbox Music launches tomorrow

Microsoft have confirmed the addition of a new music service called Xbox Music launching on Xbox first. Once, Windows 8 is released on October 26th Xbox Music will spread its wings and become the new default music player being used in all Windows 8 products.

There will be an ad-supported version and premium edition available to users similar to Spotify. Buy the premium version for £8.99.

Also future proofing Xbox Music, users you will be able to download tracks and albums as well. Plus, Microsoft are offering unlimited free streaming for the first six-months, the number of hours again similar to Spotify will be reduced after the introductory period is over. As well as being able to download tracks and albums, next year Microsoft plans on introducing a new feature to the service called “Scan and Match” which will work in the same way as iTunes Match does. It will enable users to upload music libraries to the Xbox Music cloud service.

Mobile Devices

If Microsoft couldn’t compete with Spotify and iTunes anymore they now plan to also make the service available on smartphones in the near future. Windows Phone 8, iOS and Android users expect to be able to download an app for it in the near future.
