  • 11 cities receive 4G Internet.
  • Two year contracts start at £36 per month.
  • More phones are expected to be added to the range in November.

4G has finally reached the UK, bringing super-fast mobile and fibre-optic broadband to the surface.

More cities will receive EE’s 4G by the end of the year, it will see their coverage rise from 11 to 16 cities.

People currently living in London, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham or Southampton can all receive 4G right now but for a price.

EE confirm that 4G is on the way to the UK this year

The following phones are all available with EE now: HTC One XL, Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 5 and Huawei Ascend P1. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE and Nokia Lumia 920 (exclusive to EE) will be added to the range in November.

Cost

Two year contacts don’t start cheap, £36 per month with only 500MB of data. 8GB will cost you £56 per month.

There will also be a one-off price for the actual phone, there are currently no free phones as part of a contract apart from the Ascend P1 starting off at £41 per month.

America received 4G a while ago and finally the UK now can experience high Internet speeds out and about but for a price. Whether it will be popular or not will take time however the price certainly doesn’t help.

Other networks including O2 are expected to launch 4G networks in 2013.
