Samsung Galaxy or Nexus Prime? Specs revealed, launch delayed! (UPDATE)

The Nexus Prime, also thought to be known as the Samsung Galaxy, is the rumoured new entry in Google’s line of ‘official’ Android phone. A set of specs has been leaked for the new device, which this time comes from Samsung. Packing the Ice Cream update it could well be here next week!

So far both HTC (Nexus One) and Samsung (Nexus S) have delivered phones for Google’s flagship brand of Android. Many people expected Motorola to be behind the Nexus Prime following Google’s purchase of Motorola Mobility earlier this year but it seems that Samsung has another crack of the whip with the Nexus Prime, the specs for which have been leaked and look very tasty indeed.

A source from within Google has revealed to GSM Arena that the Nexus Prime will ship with Samsung’s own Exynos chipset – a dual-core 1.5GHz processor paired with a PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, to be precise. Previous leaks suggest 1GB of RAM and 32GB of built in storage.

The Nexus Prime continues the trend for ever-larger phones with a massive 4.65 inch AMOLED screen running at 1280×720 pixels. Oh, and like its older brother it will be using curved glass.

The rear 8 megapixel camera will also do full 1080p video and there are mutterings about an improved sensor. The Prime will also support LTE – not much use in the uK as yet, but we are hopeful this will change soon. Like the iPhone 4S it should support both GSM and CDMA networks so you can roam where you want.

UPDATE: Samsung and Google have announced that the imminent launch of the Nexus Prime, which was set to be the first Android smartphone running the Ice Cream Sandwich update has been cancelled. No real reason has been given for this but we’re keeping an eye on events and will let you know.
