Netflix ties up exclusive Lionsgate films in new deal

Netflix and major Hollywood movie studio Lionsgate have sealed a deal to stream its movies exclusively to the service when it launches in the UK and Ireland next year. This means that upcoming movies such as The Expendables 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix, letting you watch the films on your Xbox 360, PS3 or Nintendo Wii.

Netflix says that the deal will cover ‘first-run feature films from the studio’ that will appear exclusively to stream on Netflix within one year of their theatrical release.

So Netflix will be the first place to stream upcoming films such as ‘The Hunger Games’, The Expendables 2 and the announced ‘Dirty Dancing’ remake when Netflix launches in early 2012.

With films such as Reservoir Dogs, The Blair Witch Project and Saw 3D under its belt, movie buffs will already be familiar with Lionsgate’s stunning pedigree. Those who become Netflix customers will be the first to stream its films in the UK. Time to get the popcorn out.
