HTC Edge to pack first quad-core smartphone processor

We’re still three months away from Mobile World Congress, the biggest mobile phone show in the calendar but there are already rumblings coming down the line that the HTC Edge could well be the first smartphone to launch with a quad-core processor. Do we need that can of grunt from out smartphones? Read on to find out more about the HTC Edge.

The HTC Edge is thought to be the first smartphone out of the trap to sport the new 1.5GHz Tegra 3 processor, which comes with a whopping four processor cores on its tiny slab of silicon. At least that’s what’s being rumoured right now, along with a pretty impressive list of features.

Along with the processor, it’s thought there will be 1GB of RAM on the HTC Edge, helping keep the quad-core ticking over when plenty of fast running data, while it would be indecent to see anything but 32GB of storage on any rumour for a smartphone launching in 2012.

The HTC Edge is thought to come with a 4.7-inch screen, so very much akin to the HTC Titan, that is capable of handling 720p HD video with ease, along with 8megapixel rear camera, no mention at this stage of a front-facing camera, that fits in a f/2.2 lens. As you would expect from HTC, you’ll also find its freshly acquired ans assimilated Beats Audio functionality delivering tip-top audio.

Very much on the ‘wish list’ at this stage, is the possible inclusion of HTC Sense 4.0, as well as new HTC services, such as online music and ebook stores. Still, that’s the beauty of rumours coming from the likes of Pocketnow

The HTC Edge is being quoted as hitting in the first half of 2012, so it may well be the big reveal at MWC in February and hitting the streets shortly thereafter. One to put on the ‘wait and see’ list we think but it’s certainly an interesting idea.
