GAME to exit administration, reward points return!

From doom and gloom on the high street, to a glimmer of hope. It appears that a consortium led by RBS has stepped in as a buyer for the UK’s biggest video game retailer. It gives hope that we’ll still be able to buy our video games from the high street specialist. More importantly, GAME leaving administration could secure thousands of jobs. Reward points are back, too.

The latest news follows earlier reports of RBS stepping in that looked like rumour, but it looks like those reports are coming true in the form of an RBS-led bank consortium, MCV reports.

Quite exactly what this could mean further down the line remains to be seen, as over 200 stores have already closed. But by exiting administration it looks like thousands of jobs will remain secure for the time being.

More thrilling signs emerged yesterday, when GAME confirmed that its customer Reward Cards have been reactivated by administrator PwC. A statement was released confirming the positive news: “Your Reward Cards have now been reactivated by the Administrators for redemption against pre-owned stock.

This means that points can be earned on all products and redeemed against pre-owned items as of now. However, at the present moment, this only applies to Reward Cards.

Gamestation, also part of the group, also had its Elite Cards reactivated: “points can be earned on all products and redeemed against pre-owned items as of now. This only applies to Elite Cards, at the moment,” a statement said.

That’s got to be a good sign. Here’s hoping that two of the UK’s biggest video game retailers can live on.
