Apple today announced in San Francisco the new iPad 3 sporting a high-res screen, 4G connectivity and an improved camera.

The new edition will come with a 9.7-inch display packing in a high-def ‘Retina Display’ at a whopping 2048 x 1530 pixel resolution, up from the predecessor’s resolution which saw it capped at 1024 x 768. The iPad 3 brings you 264 pixels per inch, “which is more than the human eye can individually distinguish.”

The company are also to update the system apps including Keynote, Pages and Numbers with Apple’s movie editing software package iMove additionally gaining an update.

Furthermore, comes a quad-core A5X chip processor to support the the HD graphics boasting four times the performance of the iPad 2.

It doesn’t stop there though with an much better 5Mp iSight camera on board, an update from the 2Mp camera that we were used to on the previous version of Apple’s popular tablet.

However, for us in the UK we won’t be able to enjoy the full benefits of the 4G LTE technology until next year.

New technology looks like it has sadly bumped up the thickness of the tablet taking it up from 8.8mm to 9.4mm and altering the weight from 1.3lb to 1.4lb. The amount of juice hasn’t changed and will continue to run at 10 hours on battery but even lower, 9 whilst using 4G tech.

It will run on iOS 5.1, rolled out today by Apple bringing users various updates and new features including support for Siri in Japanese.

Also, now the iPad will let you drop your words into an email through your voice not forgetting to pronounce your punctuation though!

Pricing is the same as the iPad for the Wi-Fi only version and the Wi-Fi/3G model coming in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. Although, the Wi-Fi/4G model will start off a little more with the price tag of £499 for the 16GB edition.

Apple have certainly been busy today also announcing a price drop on the iPad 2 to £329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version and £429 for the 16GB Wi-Fi/3G model.
