Meet the insane HTC phone that comes with its own phone!

I’m out of the office today but here’s today’s daily Tech fix.

Phones are getting bigger and bigger, and every manufacturer is getting onboard with the chunkier sized handsets. So what do you do when they get too big to use with one hand? HTC thinks it has the answer: its next phablet is so massive it even comes with its own mini-phone for you to talk through. Is this getting a bit out-of-hand now?

Bundled along with HTC’s top-range Butterfly phone in China is a remote control handset dubbed the HTC Mini that looks like an old candybar dumbphone of yesteryear, and even has its own screen and buttons. You can use it to take calls or boss the bigger phone about, or even locate your handset if you lose it using a Find My Phone-style application.

The dinky little phone can also double up as a remote control when your phone is hooked up a TV, letting you control Netflix and all sorts of videos right from the couch. Handily, the two devices can be paired via Bluetooth quickly using NFC tech, although it’s worth remembering that you’re still carrying two phones around to get round the problem of one of them being too large.

We’ve not got any word on if the HTC Mini is making its way over to British shores, either by itself or with the HTC Butterfly, but it may be for the best – is the phablet trend getting a bit silly now?
