  • 3D is a gimmick, 4K Ultra HD is the future.
  • Google TV is the future.

A big man at the BBC says 3D TV is dead. Harsh! BBC North Controller, Mark Harrison is his name and position and he reckons after witnessing the new tech being unveiled at this year’s CES 3D no longer has a place in the world of technology anymore.

He says, "everyone has finally accepted that 3D TV is dead."

However, he has a totally different perspective on new technology, 4K Ultra HD. Harrison explains that 4K is more important than 3D because it isn’t just a gimmick.

"We are years away from being able to make and transmit in 4K, yet it matters far more than 3D ever did: it enables manufacturers to focus on making bigger, better, normal TVs,"

He continues,

"That means that while budgets get tighter, the need to make high-quality digital output that can hold its own on a screen next to on-demand 4K movies will ensure production remains ambitious."

Google TV is by far his favourite though, he calls it '”brilliant” for audiences and producers but very “scary” for broadcasters.

What else is going on in the Tech World?

  • Elsewhere, Nokia are cutting 300 jobs in the IT department.
  • Android Jelly Bean is coming to Samsung Galaxy S2 in February!
  • Also, ASUS have their eyes on a new Windows Phone 8.
  • Finally, LOVEFiLM sign a new deal meaning more Office US.
