Microsoft Surface tablet unveiled, iPad has a serious new rival

Microsoft are going portable with two brand new tablets on the way called the Microsoft Surface RT Tablet and the Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro bringing new and techy Windows 8 features to your eyes. These beauties certainly provide stiff competition for Apple.

Here’s the Microsoft Surface RT and the specs:

  • Made from magnesium, random.
  • Weights 676 grams and comes with a thickness of 9.3mm.
  • 10.6-inch HD screen.
  • 1366 x 768 pixel resolution.
  • Gorilla Glass display.
  • nVdia Tegra-based ARM processor
  • USB 2.0.
  • microSD.
  • Available in 32GB and 64GB versions.

Plus edges are bevelled at 22 degrees for a securer hand fit.

As well as that comes the Windows 8 Pro Tablet and here are the specs:

  • Weighs 903 grams and is 13.5mm thick.
  • 10.6-inch full HD 1080p capacitive touchscreen.
  • USB 3.0.
  • Memory card reader.
  • Available in 64GB and 128GB editions.

Both tablets feature a kickstand enabling you prop them up when watching video. The company also unveiled a Type Cover which is basically a cover which doubles up as a  fold-out keyboard with tactile keys and a trackpad making it a tablet and a laptop in one. That is what I call cool. They will also make use of a  Digital Pen capability that lets users annotate their screen and edit documents and pages in Windows Reader through digital ink.

Also, both will come compatible with Windows Store apps and services such as Netflix for example.

All expected to go on sale in October.
