BlackBerry ditch the traditional keyboard!

BlackBerry 10 device to ditch keyboard

BlackBerry maker, RIM have decided to ditch the traditional keyboard in favour of the new touchscreen. Now, the smartphone has been suffering with popularity recently with the explosion of Apple iOS and Google Android however RIM wants to change that.

The maker of BlackBerry do make clear though that they’re not going to throw away the keyboard for good and will appear on various BlackBerry 10 OS phones.

However, are RIM doing the right thing killing off the keyboard? This is what a BB smartphone is known for after all, people buy them to be able to have the pleasure of a full, qwerty keyboard and if the company do get rid of it won’t it completely change BlackBerry history for good?

They think if they just focus on a touchscreen instead of a keyboard they will be able to take on the likes of Apple and Google? I personally think there’s a bit more to it rather than just a keyboard if being honest!

BGC analyst Colin Gillis agrees with me

“The physical keyboard is the most dominant item that separates out Research In Motion from its competitors,” he said. “If you are not playing to your historical strengths you may find it more difficult to get traction.”

Do you think RIM are doing the right thing? Let me know in ‘Comments’.
