I’m out of the office today but here’s today’s daily Tech fix.
We’ve not heard much about the Samsung Galaxy Camera since it was launched at IFA two months ago, but that changes today: Samsung has announced a release date for the Android-fuelled snapper – and it’s this week. Will this change mobile photography for ever?
The Samsung Galaxy Camera will go on sale in the UK on 8 November at Jessops, Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse, and a day earlier at 5pm at Samsung stores. Samsung is letting retailers set the price, but Jessops is already listing it for order online, priced up at £399.99 for both black and white models.
That’s a lot of money for a compact camera, but the Samsung Galaxy Camera is no ordinary shooter. The 16.3 megapixel snapper packs a 4.8-inch touchscreen around the back, and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean like a phone. It also connects to the web over 3G and Wi-Fi, so you can upload all your shots straight away to Instagram, Facebook or wherever takes your fancy.
Nikon also has its own Android-powered camera on the way, but it runs a much older version of Android, 2.3 “Gingerbread”, which supports fewer apps. Of course, it could make up for this in image quality – rest assured we’ll have reviews of both to let you know. In the meantime, get stuck in in the comments below – would you buy an actual camera-phone?
