Nokia Drive+ makes Windows Phone free satnav even smarter

Nokia Drive, Nokia’s free satnav app for Windows Phone, just got even smarter: the company has introduced Nokia Drive+ for Windows Phone 8, which lets you sample cutting edge new features early. Read on for all the details on it right here.

Nokia Drive is already an accomplished mapping and navigation app that bests its competitors with offline mapping for entire countries, so you can even use it on holiday. But on the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, you can check out new features Nokia is testing in beta, just with a simple switch.

Download the Nokia Drive+ Beta from the Marketplace (you should find the tile preloaded on your start screen) and you can activate all sorts of features, from spoken street names while driving to specifying routes that avoid toll roads. Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 devices are currently missing the live traffic “My Commute” option of their older Lumia cousins, but are expected to get it soon.

Even without it though, Nokia Drive remains a killer app, and as we wrote recently, even a reason to choose Nokia over HTC. We’ll bring you a Nokia Lumia 920 review just as soon as we can: in the meantime, you can check out our review of the first Windows Phone 8 blower to hit the market below.
