I’m out of the office today but here’s today’s daily Tech fix.
Forty-one out of Comet’s 236 stores will close by the end of this month. But there is a ray of sunshine among the doom and gloom: more sales will start this week.
Sales began in 27 Comet stores around the country last week, and another 14 will kick off any day now. The sales are in-store only though, so you can’t buy anything online.
If you want to head down to your nearest Comet to bag a bargain, have a look at the store locations page of the website.
There’s new stock arriving at the stores every day, according to the website, so you won’t necessarily have missed out on the best deals. Everything is reduced, so you’re guaranteed to save some money. And gift cards are being accepted, after some earlier confusion over whether they would be.
Administrators Deloitte have announced 330 redundancies so far. These have been from the head office in Rickmansworth, a site in Hull, and a call centre in Clevedon, Somerset, rather than any of the shops themselves. Though as many as 500 shop staff could lose their jobs.
Chris Farrington, joint administrator, told Sky News he was thankful for the staff’s hard work. “We are very grateful to the company’s employees for their professionalism, loyalty and support at this difficult time and all employees will of course continue to be paid for all the work they do while the company is in administration,” he said.
He added that they were talking to potential buyers.
