Sony have just announced that all PlayStation Network accounts will no longer be called the above and instead named Sony Entertainment accounts. The company have explained that the reason for this change is to simply put gaming with other entertainment and media services offered by the Japanese company.

Here’s a snippet the email sent from the big guys:

“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”

Already on offer are various catch-up services including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and LOVEFiLM to make sure you never miss a your favourite TV show/film.

Plus, the news all comes ahead of the 22nd February PlayStation Vita launch, a portable handheld gaming system to entertain you whether you are.

You will see the name change pop up on the next update taking place in a few days time, 8th February 2012.
