The London 2012 Olympic Games are expected to draw millions of tourists to the nation’s capital, and massive amounts of work has been done to prepare the city’s infrastructure to cope with the massive demands of hosting the world’s biggest sporting event.
But at the heart of it all are the Games themselves, and the BBC has outlined impressive plans to make sure you don’t miss a single moment of the action, promising unprecedented depth and quality of coverage across a whole range of platforms, covering every single Olympic sport across the Games.
The BBC’s coverage will include an incredible 24 HD video streams, while a dedicated radio channel plus a special Radio 5 Live Olympics extra programme will be set up just for the Games.
Online coverage will centre around a bespoke HD-capable desktop player built specifically for the Games, while dedicated Android and iOS apps are being lined up, along with a revamped version of the BBC Sport mobile site, and even apps for connected TVs.
The BBC Sport apps for Android and iOS will allow mobile sports fans to watch live video over 3G, though not in HD for practical purposes. You’ll also be able to access highlights packages to catch up on events you might have missed.
The aim is to give you multiple ways to enjoy the coverage of the London showpiece, and to make sure you can follow the Games live no matter where you are and what you’re doing.
Traditional broadcast coverage hasn’t been forgotten either, of course, with BBC One and BBC Three carrying the bulk of the coverage, with BBC Two taking over once the news comes on.
The London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony takes place on July 27.
