The App Center is a new store to purchase what Facebook is calling social apps. In the next few weeks Facebook users will be able to access the App Center on a desktop or iOS and Android device to purchase and browse social and mobile apps such as Draw Something and Spotify, which up to now have been made popular through stores such as Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
The news was confirmed in a posting on the official Facebook Developers blog claiming that the App Center will become the destination to download web and mobile apps.
On top of the free apps which Facebook has enjoyed success from, the App Center will offer the chance to get hold of paid apps. A beta program currently running is letting developers charge a fee to use their Facebook apps.
Developers are being asked to get their apps ready for launch. Facebook currently enjoys a great deal of activity through in-app purchases made in free social apps. The move to offer paid apps will offer support for a bigger variety of apps, says Facebook.
Each app will have a page. App Center pages will have feature a summary of each app and an option to install just like on other app stores.
Facebook is also helping developers get their mobile apps noticed by listing them on the App Center. If an app needs downloading, users will be sent to the App Store or Google Play to download it.
Facebook promises that only the best apps will be prominently displayed. Apps that don’t meet Facebook’s quality guidelines will not be listed. In short that means no bad apps will appear.
