  • New and shiny.
  • Programme suggestions based on the show you’re watching.
  • Multi-Stream Sport coverage.
  • Launches today.

The BBC are finally bringing their Red Button service into the 21st Century with a brand new makeover making it look rather nice.

The new and improved Red Button will come with Internet Connected TVs in mind making use of the Internet to provide iPlayer Catch-Up, BBC News, Weather and Multi-Stream sport coverage. It could have been pretty useful during the Olympics.

The BBC plan to include programming suggestions based on the television show you’re watching.

With the new look this makes channels such as BBC Three and Four always available to watch with a click of a button.

The new look will role out to Virgn Media’s Tivo service today with it soon launching on other platforms next year.

It isn’t looking likely that it will come to Sky though.

The General Manager of BBC Programmes and On Demand at the BBC, Daniel Danker explained:

"Sky is a closed platform – I shouldn't even call it a platform, it's a closed service. There's no open platform to develop into. I have no line of sight of Connected Red Button coming to Sky unless they shift their approach."

What else is going on in the Tech World?

  • Rumour is out that Microsoft are planning a Qualcomm and AMD Surface next year.
  • Google are struggling with Android upgrades.
  • Extra iCloud security is issued with iOS 6.1.
  • Facebook invite non-Facebook users to use their Android messaging app – a little like WhatsApp.
