ALL NEW Friday Top 5 Round-Up: Everything I’ve missed out on this week

Brand new feature to the blog is the Friday Round-Up which is where I bring you the Tech news that I’ve missed out on throughout the week. However, obviously not all of it because that would just be impossible!

Kindle Fire: Why Amazon's tablet is not coming to the UK

Amazon overhauled the Kindle range this week, but it also made one vital, shock announcement – that the new Kindle Fire will only be going on sale in the US for now. We really wanted the Fire to launch over here as well – join us after the break to find out why it hasn’t.

It’s only been a few weeks since Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet, but already the new Android gadget is available for pre-order. Likely to hit the shops soon after, it looks like Samsung is trying to sell as many tablets as possible before any possible sales restrictions following the South Korean’s legal battles with Apple.

Microsoft set to launch Mango before iOS 5?

It’s looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch its next-gen iPhone and iOS 5 in the next couple of weeks, and Microsoft doesn’t want to be left behind. As such, the software giant is readying Mango – the latest version of Windows Phone, and it could also be here at the beginning of October.

We were only just getting used to the idea of dual and quad-core tablets, with few software developers really taking full advantage of the hardware on offer. Despite that, nVidia is prepping a 5-core chip, with the next generation of tablets looking incredibly powerful.

All new BBC Homepage has officially launched in beta today

The BBC have recently given a few online services a brand new look and bought them into 2011 in style including a new BBC Radio homepage plus to name one more a spanking new BBC Radio 1 website. All are currently in the beta process at the moment but do look pretty awesome as they are!

With the sharpest screen we’ve heard of, coupled with a powerful processor and decent camera, it could be one of the best smartphones to hit the market.

Microsoft shows us what’s in store for Windows 8 at the BUILD conference

They’ve done it, Microsoft have officially confirmed what we can expect to see in the next edition of Windows and its very different to current OS, Windows 7 in terms of interface and feel. Microsoft have gone that little bit further and also made it user friendly for not just desktop and laptops but also tablets and televisions.

Microsoft have today at the BUILD conference pulled down the cover on the first-ever tablet to run Windows 8 and the developers now get a chance to play with it but of course also do what they’re supposed to do, begin building a new creation of apps.

Samsung today have revealed their brand new range of Windows Phone 7 Mango smartphones. The beauties are called the Samsung Focus S and the Focus Flash. Plus, on top of that the company have also said that a WP7.5 (Windows Phone 7.5) update for older models is queued for later this autumn.

However, one thing that they can lack is speed so nVdia have taken a note of that and are now working on building quad-core processors for tablets set to launch later this year.

HP may have pulled products like the TouchPad tablet from the market recently, but that hasn’t stopped the company from releasing a new all-in-one PC to go head-to-head with Apple’s iMac. Called the HP TouchSmart 520, this budget desktop machine features a 23-inch display.

It’s been quite a while since Apple announced its Thunderbolt-enabled LED Cinema Display, but the stunning screen is finally looking ready to hit the shops. Measuring in at 27 inches, we’d absolutely love to have one to go alongside our MacBook Pro.

DAB radios have come a long way in the past few years, switching from incredibly high-end technology that cost a lot of money, to cheap and cheerful designs that can brighten up any home. The Vita Audio R1 MkII portable DAB radio is a great example, and is now available in bright red.

The idea of a proper tablet – rather than just an eReader – from Kindle has been floating around for quite a while. Full details of the tablet have now cropped up, and it’s not quite looking like the iPad and Galaxy Tab killer we were hoping for.

With Apple winning an injunction against the South Korean company, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 actually disappeared from the floor at IFA over the past few days, and also went AWOL from Samsung’s German website.
