Movies on Spotify, would be nice if it was to come true

Movie Streaming for Spotify.
imageSpotify are apparently in the process of finalising a number of Movie deals with US Movie studios. This is all in the run up of the music streaming company preparing to launch a movie service during Autumn of this year, TechCrunch’s anonymous source reveals.

The new service will allegedly offers users early exclusive access to a number of movies before they become available for you to buy on disc or through download services. This sounds great if its actually going to go ahead, however below doesn’t fill me with much hope.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has denied reports but be reassured that through The Daily Tech Review I will keep you updated with the latest developments on this project.

4oD on your iPad

imageChannel 4 follows in the BBC’s footsteps with an iPad app.

If you have an iPad you can catch Channel 4’s catch up service, 4oD now with their new app ready to use on your Apple tablet device.

Currently, it is an ad-supported app and sponsored by Heineken.

You can catch a wide variety of programmes from the website but excludes archived content and shows from the US.

Channel 4’s head of VoD Sarah Milton said:

"Collectively, connected TV is an interesting opportunity and in aggregation is a significant market, but at the moment it's all pretty fragmented.

There's little in the way of consistent formats and we need some degree of scalability and longevity. The manufacturers are also continually developing new versions of their products."

What am I able to do about the PlayStation hack? Top 5

How can you tell if you’re affected?
imageThe Sony PlayStation Network has been bought down by hackers which may have obtained your personal details including credit/debit card information.
So what can you do now? Today I’m going to tell you.
  1. Change all your passwords. My advice is not just change your PSN password but change all of them to be on the safe side.
  2. Check your credit/debit card statement, if you are on Internet Banking check your statement straight away and keep an eye on it. Look out for anything that looks suspicious.
  3. Am I liable? Now according the lending code and the Consumer Credit Act, if you are a victim of Internet fraud or fraud that has occurred while you still have your credit/debit card on you then I can put your mind at rest by saying you will not be liable for any losses from your account. Yes, good news at last! However, I would still check with your bank and talk to them ASAP.
  4. Keep an eye out for related scams. Be on the clock for fake phone calls and emails claiming you’ve won something. Don’t be stupid and look for the usual warning signs of scams.
  5. How can I stop this happening again to me? The hack is not the consumers fault so there is unfortunately not much you can do apart from change all your passwords.
Hope this has helped you out.

Windows 8 LEAKED

Website claims they have a development version

image

Users of the Beta Archive are are saying that their FTP servers contain a developmental copy of Windows 8. At the moment we have no official name or release date for the next version of Windows.

Microsoft release Milestone versions which are basically early pre-beta releases and are usually released for testing purposes only. There’s talks that the first beta which will be opened up to the public may be released in the next few months, exciting!

Now tablets are becoming increasingly popular Windows have taken this on board because they are now developing a version of the software especially for ARM processors. Sources have said that Windows may be releasing two versions of Windows, one for keyboard and mice and another one for touch.

Featured in the new operating system from Windows will be a ribbon-based user interface across a wide range of programmes like what we already see in Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010, software built in for use of webcams, a PDF reader and an immersive browser.

After Microsoft’s most hated operating system, Windows Vista came Windows 7 which is much more liked by the public and the stats prove this, 350 million licenses sold worldwide.

Wii 2 coming in 2012

Nintendo have announced the next release date for the Wii console.

imageWe do not have any technical details just yet but if gamers want to have a sneak preview of the new console then you should head over to the E3 Expo in Los Angeles in June.

The original Wii launched five years ago and unfortunately sales have been declining due to recent competition from PlayStation Move, Xbox 360 Kinect and mobile gaming platforms. However, Nintendo still hold the fact that they were the first console to offer a brand new motion controlled gaming experience.

Nintendo’s chief executive, Satoru Iwata has given hints that his company are preparing for a fresh innovation.

Sources have mentioned that Wii 2 just wants to update the existing machine such as by adding HD graphics. However, another source from Eurogamer.net completely opposes that view and has told BBC News:

“"The talk was about Wii HD, but I do not see Nintendo doing that. It will do something more innovative."

He also noted that the Nintendo Wii was never supposed to be a hi-tech console. It was originally marketed for its motion-sensing capabilities, Johnny Minkley expects to see the the new console marketed in the same way.

Get your hands on the Samsung Galaxy S 2 a week early!

imageThe dual-core new smartphone from Samsung is expected to be released on May 1st however Phones4u say that they reckon they will be able to put the brand new phone in the palm of your hands a week early!

Networks O2, Orange, Three and Vodafone are all scheduled to start selling the phone on the 1st May but Phones4u claim you can get hold of it on Wednesday 27th April, yes next week! However, users on the T-Mobile network will unfortunately have to wait until June according to a message on the mobile network’s ‘coming soon’ page.

We’ve seen a delay on the release of this phone since the beginning of the year but least now your new Samsung Galaxy S 2 will come equipped with an improved processor and a 1.2GHz dual-core chip.

Now lets take a quick look at some of the new features that could set this smartphone apart from others such as a 4.3inch super AMOLED touchscreen and an 8Mp camera.
So I suppose the question is will you be buying the S 2 in the forthcoming weeks?

Sky 3D to get bigger

imageSky 3D launched last year offering customers with the right equipment and package to watch glorious 3D technology.

At the moment Sky 3D appeals to 70,000 people based on Sky’s assumption that in the future 3D will become more popular.

Director of product development at Sky, Brian Lenz said:

"It's one thing to sit with something like 3D where we are going out and saying that we're happy with 70,000 subscribers in the first quarter, but that's because we believe that it will grow to a much bigger number for us.”

He believes that Sky is a “trusted” firm by the company to bring customers the latest cutting edge technology.

Also, he said:

"If it's going to be done in the living room than I like to think that Sky is trusted to do it well,"

Spotify cutting hours

imageSpotify announced last week to Free/Open users that they would be cutting the amount of hours that you can listen to music. Users will only be able to listen to 10 hours of music and if you want to listen to individual tracks you will only be able to play the song five times!

This is not good at all and really annoyed me. I came across this article last week, now I’m a regular Spotify user and was one of the first people to discover it so the fact that I would probably have to pay or switch to an alternative really irritated me.

TechRadar recently wrote an article entitled “10 best free Spotify alternatives,” I came across it and thought that I would draw your attention to it. Check it out and see what you think? Will any of those beat Free/Open Spotify?

27% Brits are oblivious to what is posted online about them

image

Symantec have carried out research that looks at how much the Internet knows about you and even worse the amount of Brits who don’t even know that that there is information about themselves online.

Here are the facts: -

  • 40% of consumers don’t constantly protect and control any information that is posted about them.
  • 59% thought that it didn’t matter.
  • 20% said that they didn’t have a clue where to start.
  • Half of all adults living in the UK post content about themselves on the Internet.
  • 38% of the people asked said that they do post comments on social networking sites.
  • 29% post photographs.
  • Nearly a quarter said that they’d posted something personal online that they wouldn’t want to share with any future employers or teachers. 14% said the most popular form of content that they’d uploaded were photographs.
  • 35% couldn’t work in politics due to the information posted online about them.
  • 51% said if there was a handy ‘reset’ button which would delete all the information they would use it.

Symantec advised users to run a complete search using all the names they’ve previously used on public records and on the Internet, use image and blog functions which are readily available on search engines to discover information that may have been posted about you online.

A piece of advice that I would give you is basically don’t publish anything online that you wouldn’t want a parent, employer or teacher to see.
